These are great fun, kids loves rice krispy cakes and this version for Halloween is easy but a bit different with the extra decoration needed.
For 12-15 you will need:
- 150g mini marshmallows
- 50g unsalted butter or margarine
- 120g Rice Krispies
- Orange food colouring
- Black or chocolate icing writing pen
- Orange Matchmakers
In a large microwaveable bowl, melt the butter in the microwave, then mix with the marshmallows, return to the microwave and melt those too. Put them on for a minute, then stir and put them on for another 30 seconds.
Then mix in a few drops of orange food colouring until it’s a pumpkin colour. You’ll probably need more drops than you think. Carefully stir in the Rice Krispies until everything is coated.
Cut some Matchmakers until you have 15 or so pieces around 1cm long. Lightly butter your hands (yes!) and then start forming the mixture into pumpkin balls. You’re looking for something slightly bigger than a golf ball. Once formed, push a Matchmaker in the top to act as the stalk. Place on greaseproof paper and once they’re all done, pop in the fridge for ten minutes to cool.
Once ready, remove from the fridge and using the icing pen, draw triangle eyes and a zigzag mouth on each one to make a proper lantern look.
Pop back in the fridge and then take them out when you’re ready to eat!
