Halloween is full of blood and gross stuff, these are no exception but the great thing is that they are a really simple biscuit, it’s the decoration that makes it and kids will love making them look at gross as possible!
For around a dozen biscuits, you will need:
- 130g softened unsalted butter
- 70g golden caster sugar
- An egg yolk
- 150g plain flour
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Some flaked almonds
- Red food colouring
- 50g icing sugar
In a large bowl, mix the sugar and butter with an electric whisk until well combined. Add the vanilla extract and egg yolk and mix again. Then sift the flour over the mixture and combine well with your hands. Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees and grease a baking tray.
Take enough dough to make a finger and roll it to a finger shape, pinching the sides and scoring the top to make knuckles. Then place a flaked almond at the end for the nail. Place on the baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden, then cool on the tray for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Once cool, mix the icing sugar with a few drops of red colouring and gradually adding drops of water until it’s a very thick paste. Dip the non-nail end of each finger in the icing and return to the rack to dry.
A twist on this is to split the dough when mixing and add blue colouring to one half, with green colouring added to the other half. This gives your monster fingers an even creepier appearance!
