I’ve never really been sure how French French toast is, but my wife really likes it and we tried it with Jack, he liked it too!
For each serving, you will need:
- 4 slices unsmoked streaky bacon
- 1 sliced white bread from a normal loaf or sourdough
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 25g butter
- 1 teaspoon sugar
Preheat the oven to 200 degrees. Line a baking tray with tin foil and put a wire rack on top.
Whisk the egg, mix with the milk and place on a large shallow dish. Soak the bread, turning regularly, while the oven warms up.
Place the bacon on the rack and pop the tray in the oven on a top shelf. Bake for 15 minutes or more until the bacon turns crispy.
After the bacon has been in the oven for ten minutes or so, start to make the toast. In a large pan place the butter, melt it over a medium to high heat, then add the bread. Cook and turn until it’s brown both sides. Remove from the pan and sprinkle the sugar into the remaining butter. Add the toast back in for a few seconds so the sugar caramelises on one side of the toast.
Serve the toast with the bacon on top.
